Little Big Town's Kimberly Schlapman Shares How to Help Musicians during the Pandemic
Countless industries have been hit hard by the COVID-19 pandemic, especially the music world. The Doctors welcome Little Big Town singer Kimberly Schlapman who shares how you can help struggling musicians and others working in the music industry.
Kimberly and the rest of her country music supergroup might not be touring due to COVID, but they are using their voice and platform to help those in need.
"[The pandemic] has been absolutely catastrophic to our business here in Nashville, and all the music business," she says, explaining that the once-bustling music city has been devastated by the pandemic. "Our music is gone. We want it back, and we need it back."
To help the many people affected by shutdowns and the cancelations of tours, Kimberly and Little Big Town are working with ACM Lifting Lives, the charity arm of the Academy of Country Music, which is saving the lives of the musicians who have fallen on hard times. The organization has given away more than 3.5 million dollars to music industry professionals in need.
Kimberly explains there are so many people behind the scenes and behind the stage who work hard to help artists bring music to fans, and these people have been hardest hit by the pandemic, are not able to work, and may not have a financial cushion to rely on.
"I'm asking folks to dig deep because we have a lot of musicians out of work and we have got to help them," the singer says, adding, "It's time to pick each other up and spread some love and these people out."
